133g Water Proof Gore-tex Active Cycling Jacket Available now

first_imgAs promised, Gore-tex active will also be available in a Run (MTB?) jacket which is slightly heavier (158g) thanks to the hood. Available today on or in select retailers, the Bike jacket will set you back $300 while the Run is $330. Since the water beads up on the surface of the jacket, rain can simply be shaken off with your best impersonation of a wet dog. When it’s not covered in water, the jacket has a matte finish. One of the best features seems to be the claim that this jacket will not lose it’s water repellency over time and will not require additional treatments to keep the inside dry. Likely one of, if not the lightest fully waterproof jacket for cyclists, the Gore-Tex Active Bike jacket comes in at a packable 133g. Designed with an ergonomic fit specifically for cycling, the jacket is built with longer sleeves, a drop tail, and a collar meant to keep water out when in an aerodynamic position. In full black it isn’t exactly hi-viz, but it does include reflective accents and logos. When not in use the jacket can be stowed in the front pocket.center_img Click on the image to start GIF/photos c. GoreThe Gore-tex membrane finds its strength in the fact that the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) layer has over 9 billion (with a ‘b’) pores per square inch. Because of the sheer number of the pores, the actual size of each one is 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet yet 700 times larger than a molecule of water vapor. Naturally that allows sweat to escape while preventing water from getting in.Previously, this membrane had to be sandwiched or laminated, between the inner lining and outer fabric. This resulted in a very durable, waterproof shell, but it added weight and bulk. With Gore-Tex Active, that waterproof membrane is built into the lining and does not require an outer layer. Gore-tex calls this a “permanent water beading surface” which not only eliminates the outer layer from absorbing water but keeps the weight down to a minimum…last_img read more

Report: Indians Catcher Yan Gomes Drawing “Significant Trade Interest” From Teams

You can follow Matt on Twitter HERE. Matt Loede Related TopicsIndiansYan Gomescenter_img In an effort to shed payroll as well as get younger, the Indians are floating a number of players on the market as possible trade bait, and while the efforts thus far seem to have been focused on two starting pitchers, another player is reportedly getting a lot of interest as well. That player is catcher Yan Gomes, who is coming off an All-Star season at the backstop position, this after hitting .266 with 16 homers and 48 runs batted in.While Gomes’ offensive numbers are not overwhelming by baseball standards, it’s his ability on defense as well as to call games behind the plate that has made him so valuable to the Indians the past six seasons.Ken Rosenthal reports that while the starting pitching is still garnering a ton of interest on the trade market, Gomes’ contract is a favorable one to a lot of teams, which is why he’s also getting a lot of interest. #Indians drawing significant trade interest in catcher Yan Gomes as well as SPs, sources tell The Athletic. Gomes earning $7M in 2019 with $9M club option for ‘20, $11M opt for ‘21. Rival exec says CLE “scrambling to get young players.” Perez and Haase only other Cs on roster.— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) November 20, 2018As Rosenthal mentioned, if the Indians do find a trading partner for Gomes, they do have Roberto Perez and Eric Haase waiting to take his place as the full-time catcher, and they could also deal for another catcher as well this offseason.Perez is another good defensive catcher, but his offensive numbers have always lacked, last season hitting just .168 with two homers and 19 runs batted in, while starting 55 games at the catcher spot.In his five seasons with the Tribe, Perez has always been a backup, and some wonder if his offensive numbers will get better if he can get a full season as the team’s #1 catcher. He’s also battled some injury issues, like a thumb injury back in May of 2016 that forced him to miss quite a bit of time.It was that season the team tried to get catcher Jonathan Lucroy from Milwaukee, as Gomes was having an awful season as the teams’ starting catcher, but Lucroy vetoed the deal, which allowed Perez to end up as the Indians top catcher in the postseason run, and he played well in their march to the World Series. Haase hit .236 (102-for-433) with 20 homers and 71 RBI this year at Columbus. He struck out 143 times with just 31 walks, while posting a .732 OPS.He made his Indians debut in September, and the team was impressed with him in the spring after drafting him in the seventh round in 2011.Gomes in his Indians career has hit .250, with 83 homers and 295 RBI in 609 games.last_img read more

‘The Showstopper’ Peterson-Griffith turns tables on Sinclair to win Strongest Man competition….

first_imgCarlos ‘The Showstopper’ Peterson-Griffith deadlifted a car for 20 reps, part of his show stopping performance at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Sunday night which earned him the top honours in the Guyana’s Strongest Man competition. Petterson-Griffith upstaged his Space Gym teammate and last year’s winner, Julio ‘The Beast’ Sinclair to become the second local to take home the prestigious title in the third staging of the event.‘The Showstopper’ turned out to be mightier than ‘The Beast’ and third place finisher Wilson Balansi of Suriname during the competition which included a 250-pound Bag Throw over a 4ft high bar, walking with 600+ pounds on their backs and dead lifting a Nissan Sylphy.During the course of the event which was held under floodlights in the parking lot of the venue, the line-up of nine behemoths went back and forth swapping incredible feats of strength, but Peterson-Griffith and Sinclair were so equally strong that the deciding factor turned out to be the amount of reps the former deadlifted. Twice the amount of Sinclair. During his attempt, Sinclair seemed a bit stuck in neutral but eventually gained his footing to complete 10 reps. When it was Peterson-Griffith’s turn, it seemed like the his batteries were fully charged. Running on an adrenaline high and encouraged by the large and vocal crowd, the ‘Showstopper’ seemed unstoppable and he dead lifted rep after rep, having to stop as his time cap expired. Anis Ade-Thomas who also competed with the team that finished second in the CrossFit competition minutes earlier, showed he is a true strong man, finishing just off the podium in the nine-man line-up.Peterson-Griffith who had a large entourage cheering him on on the sidelines, now has a year’s worth of bragging rights, $150,000 and the title of ‘Guyana’s Strongest Man’. During last year’s inaugural staging, Suriname’s Dononvan Dongo earned the winner’s spoils.last_img read more
